Girls mini break .... Stayed at the Velamar mid May with my friend. Lovely clean modern hotel & excellent value for money. Staying again next month and having stayed in many hotels within Olhos I have to stay this is now my first option.

Our room was cleaned to a very high standard every day, it was spacious, the bed was so comfortable.
The walk down to the front is a fair walk, but there are lots of restaurants bars and cafes to stop at along the way.
We ate at the Tai restaurant near to the hotel, this was lovely, also The Three Marias just a bit further down the road which is really good value, 3 courses and a drink for 12.50 euros also went to Ambrosia and Nectar , an authentic portugese restaurant.Our favouruite place during the day was the Seepy Donkey near the sea front, food very good and so reasonably priced.
We went to Villamoura Marina which is definitely worth a visit also we went Loule which is a lovely place to visit if you get the chance with beautiful buildings, lovely little cafes, a huge food market also a gypsy market on a Saturday.

They see to your every needs -with a smile. Joana and XXX were soo helpful i can not thank them enough. The rooms were nice and simple, the thing that stood out to me was the fact they had UK channels such as E4 and ITV on the TVs in the room- which was a nice touch as i am a TV lover and don’t usually get UK channels when abroad. The beds and pillows were comfy. Other aspects of the hotel such as the pool and bars were very pretty, with a consistent colour scheme. Theres a pool table and piano- even though i didn’t use them, but a nice touch. The hotel is clean throughout. For a 3 star hotel, it really exceeds expectations. While i was here, it was my birthday. I went out for the day and when i came back, in my room was a slice of cake and a bottle of champagne- along with a handwritten card from the hotel staff!!
The only downside was the breakfast, the options were quite limited for someone who doesn’t eat pork.. With that being said, i still left the breakfast hall every morning with a full tummy. Read MoreWe have visited this hotel several times in the past, but for one reason or another, not for the last five years. In the meantime, the hotel had become a boutique hotel. After parking the car in the hotel car park, we were checked in quickly and efficiently by the staff and supplied with electronic room cards that worked first time, every time. Not always the case with some hotel’s room cards.
In the bedroom the air-con worked well and was fully adjustable. The bedroom was of a good size, as was the fully equipped en-suite. Tea and coffee making facilities were all available and a very good choice of TV channels to watch, along with a good internet connection.
One or two issues arose, the most noticeable was that the bathroom hand basin was stuck closed, that meant that after the first use of it, one was left with a basin full of dirty water and no way to get rid of it. Upon notifying reception, the matter was quickly sorted while we were having breakfast. Another issue was that the water flow into the basin was very slow, hardly more than a trickle. This did not appear to be improved over the course of our stay.
The breakfast was comprehensive, as it has been in the past, but the coffee making machine while it offers quite a range of coffees, needs to use a better brand of coffee in my opinion. The breakfast room is located on the top floor and affords uninterrupted panoramic views of the sea and countryside. You can enjoy your breakfast inside the room, or, on the terrace just outside.
Albufeira, with all that it offers, is a quick trip of 6km from the hotel and there are paid car parks that will enable you to walk directly into the middle of town. At 1 euro an hour, that’s inexpensive parking.
We would like to say that all the staff were most pleasant and eager to help. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. Read Less

The hotel is situated 5 mins from the strip in a taxi and 10 minutes from the old town. There are some very nice restaurants very close to the hotel, the Indian and Thai places the standouts. There is also a great bar only a few minutes walk from the hotel called the New York Bar that must be tried! The hotel was near to bars and restaurants and the beach was about 15 min walk away.

There is a bar for an evening drink. There is a small pool with a bar and recliners though we tended to go out to various beaches in the area. The hotel is situated a 20 minute walk to Olhos d'Agua beach, with lots of bars and restaurants at the beach and also near the hotel. There is a bus stop close by including a hop on hop off bus to take you to several places to visit. The hop on hop off bus is brilliant for getting around cheaply. The hotel can provide a 4 day ticket for 35 euros. We used it to visit Vilamoura marina/beach, Albufeira town/marina/beach and Salgados beach (which is quiter than the other two). You also get to see the beautiful countryside of the Algarve.Overall, we could not fault this lovely hotel and would definitely visit it again. Read Less

On our last day as we had an evening flight we paid 5 euros each to hire a room for an hour to shower and change. Overall a nice hotel just a bit too far away from beach and bars in my opinion. The staff are curtious and efficient in what they all do. However the cleaners were not on parr this visit, bath tub not cleaned until Wednesday when we must have had a different clesner as the whole bathroom and bedroom had been thoroughly cleaned however Thursday was back to a basic wipe around-a bit disapointing, but didnt spoil our holiday.
A suggestion for breakfast room to have 2 coffee machines as always a que for this.
The hotel bar is very reasonable for drinks and even a pool table.
Never used the pool in all the 15 years visiting this hotel, however you can hire beach/pool towels for 3€ each and each change-saves suitcase space.
Car park is safe and secure with a code to get in and a sensor to get out.
All in all a very resonably priced hotel for a week in the sunshine. Read Less

Breakfast fantastic, served from 7.30 to 10.30 am.
TV has lots of English speaking channels. There were quite a few English books left behind by other holiday makers. Look on the tables near the lifts on each floor and in the bookcase near the bar.
The only thing missing for me was a clothes drying rack on the balcony.
We saw only 3 children in the hotel and other than the small pool, there's not much for them to do.
Afternoon tea can be purchased. It was OK but needs some refinements.

The hotel was modern and clean. The Pool is small but for the size of the hotel and the amount of guests it is perfect and looks exactly like the pictures. We had a room without a balcony which we knew when we booked, however as we did not have a balcony it was a bit difficult to dry swimwear and towels, would be handy to have some sort of dryer that could be hung out of the window. The bathroom was very clean and fresh towels were provided as needed along with additional towels that could be used at the beach or pool. if you enjoy a bath however, it is difficult to fill as it did not have a tap only the shower, however this was quite soothing due to the water falling noise. There are two stunning beaches within a 15 minute walk, and a supermarket 2 minutes down the road. Very nice hotel, would definatley book again. Read Less

The hotel let itself down slightly though. On two consecutive weekends, the area we used to relax in, was taken over by large groups, of stags, hens and birthday parties.
The problem with these large groups is that they want to be together at all times. Is it too much to ask that they respect other guests? Quite honestly, I don't understand why they weren't in hotels nearer the Strip - there is nothing for them in Olhos d' Agua.
Had it not been for this oversight, I'd have given the hotel five, and I really think the staff deserve it. The management need to watch those big bookings though, it is definitely something that would put me off going back. Read Less

We waited about 15 minutes then were given access to our room, great customer service. Room was lovely 217, over looking the pool area and was everything we wanted. Buffet breakfast was nice, cereal fruit hot buffet , pastries and yoghurt. Unfortunately due to the corona virus measures were put in place, and on our last day restrictions were put in place to restrict 10 people in the dining room at any one time with tables being a distance apart. The pool area was also closed.
As our flight was late evening I asked if we could keep our room for an extra 4 hrs. The reception lady let us due to the situation at no extra cost.
Area is very nice and safe. A few nice bars and eateries which are very reasonable.
Will definitely return to this hotel. Fantastic staff and great customer service. Keep up the fabulous work. Read Less

Room was bright and comfortable. Breakfast was all we needed (with pasteis de nata if you are up early enough). Walking distance to the beach in Olhos d'Àgua and good restaurants right next to the hotel (the indian tandoori is a must try).
The only thing as we advised reception was that we could not control the aircon the second night, so we had cold air falling right on our faces... Read Less

The hotel rooms are spacious and very comfortable with large queen size comfortable beds and a large private balcony with wonderful views.
The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The restaurant is on the top floor and has excellent views. The selection of food is reasonable for breakfast. The juices are freshly squeezed although there could be a wider variety of hot food. Read Less

Loved the hotel from the minute I walked in and was very sad to leave room clean and had everything we needed...shower TV safe aircon bathroom even had shower gel, pool towels included along with bath and hand towels so if you want to travel light this is a perfect hotel, the pool is small but fine for the size of the hotel, nice little pool bar main bar inside very reasonable prices for drinks and snacks, breakfast was very nice and the view is fabulous, The staff very friendly and helpful nothing was a problem for them so thank you x , shops very close and nice little restaurants including one where you can get bread and olives meal drink ( carafe of wine beer soft drink ) dessert coffee and port for €8.50 or €11 well worth a visit we went twice...there is a local bus takes you too albuferia town and costs €2.50 one way per person but was cheaper for us to get an uber the literally arrived in a minute or 2 and were clean nice and understood English very well usually around €6 to old town and cheaper to the strip or a little more to the marina where we went go karting...lots to do for any type of holiday families, couples young and older or just a few friends away together we are definitely coming back and loved the velamar hotel ***** Read Less

Read MoreIt is easy to see why the Velamar receives so many excellent reviews from satisfied customers. The peaceful village setting is largely reflected in the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. There are excellent local restaurants, cafes and bars in the local area and two lovely beaches are about 20 minutes walk away. The hotel staff are utterly charming and delightful, notably the reception team, Joao and Mauro on the bar, and the room cleaners. The rooms are stylish with a modern blue/ grey colour palette and very clean, and the included breakfast is very good, especially when you can sit on the outside terrace enjoying the sea views in the sun. We had just a couple of minor gripes. Rooms are just a little too spartan and could be enlivened with some local Portuguese art and ceramics. The room pictures were bizarre to say the least, resembling the kind of thing you get when you buy empty picture frames from a chain store! The sound proofing was great at shutting out exterior noise, but poor at excluding interior noise; in Room 1, at times we were disturbed by conversations by the lifts, through the walls (especially in the bathroom), and noise from the public rooms (glass bottles in the bar and people playing pool, sometimes very late at night). Our main gripe though was, as other clients have commented; anti social behaviour from single sex groups. Though it is claimed the hotel does not accept Stag or hen groups, they clearly do. One group of middle aged women proved to be particularly loud and uncouth during our stay, at times selfishly monopolising the pool, bar or breakfast room. The hotel is quiet and out of the hustle and bustle of Albufeira, totally unsuitable for large, loutish groups who want to party. Clearly no one is happy; the groups who have to be asked to be quiet, the hotel staff who clearly feel uncomfortable with the bad behaviour or the guests on holiday who just want to soak up the sun, tranquil atmosphere and Algarve charm. Such a lovely little hotel, clean modern & amazing views from breakfast room.
Only negative for me was that in June when I stayed with a friend then in August with husband there were large parties staying totally spoiling the ambience of the pool area in the day. I think booking sites referring to the area as Albufeira need to correct and hotel need to be more strict with booking potatoes. I have stayed frequent times but was slightly disappointed. However; I can only hope it is a blip as have booked twice for two short breaks next year as it is such a lovely place & such good value in my favourite resort of Olhos de Agua! Read Less

Read MoreWe had swopped our timeshare for a hotel close to the strip but when we arrived it was disgusting so went onto Tripadvisor/Booking.com and were lucky enough to find this gem and they could accomodate us for 7 nights! From the time of our arrival to our checking out, we found everything about this hotel amazing! During our stay we received a parking ticket for 5 euros which we were unable to pay as we could not access the system being an international visitor - we asked the hotel for assistance and they even offered to pay it for us as the fine would have increased to 150 euros if not paid within 3 days!
The breakfasts were lovely - more than adequate and staff in the restaurant always pleasant and helpful.
Our room was lovely - it was on the road, but we never heard any noise - we were more than happy.
This hotel is way more than a 3 star establishment and we would stay again. Our only tiny negative is that the walls are quite thin and you can hear conversations, TV, hairdryers etc in the other rooms. Read Less
