We checked in late on Sun night and were given a lovely, quiet balcony room (108) overlooking the swimming pool. The room was spacious with a huge bed, a lovely en-suite bathroom and all the other facilities you need including a small fridge/ minibar, flat screen TV ( with loads of English channels including BBC and ITV) and tea and coffee making facilities. Some reviews have mentioned that the hotel has a problem with "noise" internally but we honestly didn't notice it during our stay. Breakfast is served in the dining room on the third floor which has floor to ceiling windows on three sides and an outside seating area. There was a large selection of hot and cold food on offer each day with choices available to satisfy anyone. All the staff we dealt with were lovely and helpful and worked extremely hard.
The hotel also provides you with a beach/ pool towel to be used for the duration of your stay. We didn't really use the pool but did visit the two lovely beaches near to the hotel ( turn left out of the hotel for Olhos de Agua and right for Maria Luisa) which are both a 15 minute stroll away. There are a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Turn right out of the hotel and you'll find The Three Marias which offers a three course set menu including a drink for 12.5 euros per person, excellent value for money!
I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again. Read Less

two hen parties came while we were there, one after the other, definitely not the Hotel for Hen Parties,quiet Hotel,no were near any Hen/Stag type entertainment.
Only one small gripe, not with the Hotel but Jet2 - booked a room only to find when we arrived that there was no balcony, rooms with balconys cost extra 30E, not the Hotels fault but Come on Jet2 make it clearer when booking please!!

Such a lovely little hotel, clean modern & amazing views from breakfast room.
Only negative for me was that in June when I stayed with a friend then in August with husband there were large parties staying totally spoiling the ambience of the pool area in the day. I think booking sites referring to the area as Albufeira need to correct and hotel need to be more strict with booking potatoes. I have stayed frequent times but was slightly disappointed. However; I can only hope it is a blip as have booked twice for two short breaks next year as it is such a lovely place & such good value in my favourite resort of Olhos de Agua! Read Less

We had booked a ‘ standard room’ which did not have a balcony , for a 3 night stay , this was not an issue . The room was huge , lovely comfy beds , great quality bed linens and towels , excellent toiletries in the shower room , mini bar , tv with English channels and SPOTLESSLY clean !
The hotel has a small garden with a pretty pool and an outdoor bar area , plenty of sun beds , the pool though , was freezing cold !
There is an indoor bar area too , with a happy hour , breakfast is served on the top floor, with the opportunity to sit outside , as we did to enjoy the views .
Excellent breakfast selection , good coffee, fresh orange juice , fresh fruit selection , cold meats and cheeses , cereals ,fabulous bread and pastry offerings , as well as the ‘ usual suspects ‘ , bacon , sausages , beans , scrambled eggs etc .
The staff here were delightful , friendly , helpful and welcoming .
Just outside the hotel , turning either left or right , will lead you to a choice of bars and restaurants , and a pleasant 15 minute walk to the lovely beach area too !
The only slight downside is , the road it’s situated on is a relatively busy road , not at the time , but there is traffic noise, in our room , without a balcony, the triple glazing was very , very effective and we could not hear a thing, if you opened the window though , it could be heard at times , but don’t let this put you off, we would certainly return in a heartbeat ! Rooms cleaned daily, this very clean hotel has lovely rooms and terrific and friendly staff.
On either side of the hotel there are a few restaurant/bars and their prices have to be seen to be believed. Two of them offer a 4 course meal with wine or a beer for 12.50! A snack bar right beside the hotel sells a pint for 2 euros and a glass of wine for 1. These places close at about 11 or 11:30 pm as does the hotel bar.
Less than a 20 minute walk away will take you to the beach and the main part of Olhos de Agua. Plenty of good bars and restaurants with later closing times.
For 2.35 on the bus or an 8 euro taxi ride you can go to Old Town Albufeira with its heaving nightlife. there's something there for eveybody.
We had a really great week here which was greatly enhanced by our stay in the lovely Velamar hotel. Read Less

We arrived early but check in wasn't until 2. The lady checked to see if our room was ready but it was still being cleaned. We waited about 15 minutes then were given access to our room, great customer service. Room was lovely 217, over looking the pool area and was everything we wanted. Buffet breakfast was nice, cereal fruit hot buffet , pastries and yoghurt. Unfortunately due to the corona virus measures were put in place, and on our last day restrictions were put in place to restrict 10 people in the dining room at any one time with tables being a distance apart. The pool area was also closed.
As our flight was late evening I asked if we could keep our room for an extra 4 hrs. The reception lady let us due to the situation at no extra cost.
Area is very nice and safe. A few nice bars and eateries which are very reasonable.
Will definitely return to this hotel. Fantastic staff and great customer service. Keep up the fabulous work. Read Less

The staff are curtious and efficient in what they all do. However the cleaners were not on parr this visit, bath tub not cleaned until Wednesday when we must have had a different clesner as the whole bathroom and bedroom had been thoroughly cleaned however Thursday was back to a basic wipe around-a bit disapointing, but didnt spoil our holiday.
A suggestion for breakfast room to have 2 coffee machines as always a que for this.
The hotel bar is very reasonable for drinks and even a pool table.
Never used the pool in all the 15 years visiting this hotel, however you can hire beach/pool towels for 3€ each and each change-saves suitcase space.
Car park is safe and secure with a code to get in and a sensor to get out.
All in all a very resonably priced hotel for a week in the sunshine. Read Less

They see to your every needs -with a smile. Joana and XXX were soo helpful i can not thank them enough. The rooms were nice and simple, the thing that stood out to me was the fact they had UK channels such as E4 and ITV on the TVs in the room- which was a nice touch as i am a TV lover and don’t usually get UK channels when abroad. The beds and pillows were comfy. Other aspects of the hotel such as the pool and bars were very pretty, with a consistent colour scheme. Theres a pool table and piano- even though i didn’t use them, but a nice touch. The hotel is clean throughout. For a 3 star hotel, it really exceeds expectations. While i was here, it was my birthday. I went out for the day and when i came back, in my room was a slice of cake and a bottle of champagne- along with a handwritten card from the hotel staff!!
The only downside was the breakfast, the options were quite limited for someone who doesn’t eat pork.. With that being said, i still left the breakfast hall every morning with a full tummy. Check in was smooth and a lovely lady receptionist actually walked us around the ground floor, showing us the bar area, the pool area, where the lifts were and explained the breakfast sitting, a very good first impression. The staff were always polite and helpful throughout our stay.
Our room was on the ground floor, with balcony, slightly disappointed to be on road side but as we were only her for a week we did not ask to be moved. Neither of us had any trouble sleeping, this may also be down to the extremely comfortable beds. The hotel decor is modern, grey, white and turquoise. The safe and air con were free, as was the WiFi. TV with sports channels. Large wardrobes, more cost hangers are needed, 12 is not enough, which is why I always travel with at least 10 hangers in my luggage. Fridge in room with items to purchase. I think the cleaning routine is top floor to bottom of hotel and the first couple of days we came back to the room after 4pm and the room hadn't been done. I asked reception if it could be done in the morning and that is exactly what they did. Maybe top to bottom one day and bottom to top the next day would be a good process to adopt. Shower was a good pressure and we always had hot water. The communal areas were always clean.
Breakfast on the top third floor was lovely, also an outside area weather permitting. Coffee, tea, juices, various breads, honey, jam, chocolate spread, cereals, bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, various pastries, fruit, yoghurt, meats, cheese, plenty choices and I cannot understand anyone's complaints.
The pool area is small and the water was cold, but a pleasant area to relax, read a book and have a drink.
To the right of the hotel there are a couple of restaurants and a bar, to the left the same, walk further to the left to a large supermarket, keep going for more shops and restaraunts. Once you get to the island turn right and head down hill to the main area and beach, that's the easiest way to get there once you find your way around you can cut through the back streets. Takes about 20-30 mins depending on your pace.
Would I stay here again -Yes. I think the hotel is suited more to couples rather than families and party people. A good base for a quieter holiday or a good base if you hire a car or use the buses to explore. Portugal is a beautiful county with some fabulous beaches. Read Less

From the time of our arrival to our checking out, we found everything about this hotel amazing! During our stay we received a parking ticket for 5 euros which we were unable to pay as we could not access the system being an international visitor - we asked the hotel for assistance and they even offered to pay it for us as the fine would have increased to 150 euros if not paid within 3 days!
The breakfasts were lovely - more than adequate and staff in the restaurant always pleasant and helpful.
Our room was lovely - it was on the road, but we never heard any noise - we were more than happy.
This hotel is way more than a 3 star establishment and we would stay again. Our only tiny negative is that the walls are quite thin and you can hear conversations, TV, hairdryers etc in the other rooms. Read Less

Read MoreWe have visited this hotel several times in the past, but for one reason or another, not for the last five years. In the meantime, the hotel had become a boutique hotel. After parking the car in the hotel car park, we were checked in quickly and efficiently by the staff and supplied with electronic room cards that worked first time, every time. Not always the case with some hotel’s room cards.
In the bedroom the air-con worked well and was fully adjustable. The bedroom was of a good size, as was the fully equipped en-suite. Tea and coffee making facilities were all available and a very good choice of TV channels to watch, along with a good internet connection.
One or two issues arose, the most noticeable was that the bathroom hand basin was stuck closed, that meant that after the first use of it, one was left with a basin full of dirty water and no way to get rid of it. Upon notifying reception, the matter was quickly sorted while we were having breakfast. Another issue was that the water flow into the basin was very slow, hardly more than a trickle. This did not appear to be improved over the course of our stay.
The breakfast was comprehensive, as it has been in the past, but the coffee making machine while it offers quite a range of coffees, needs to use a better brand of coffee in my opinion. The breakfast room is located on the top floor and affords uninterrupted panoramic views of the sea and countryside. You can enjoy your breakfast inside the room, or, on the terrace just outside.
Albufeira, with all that it offers, is a quick trip of 6km from the hotel and there are paid car parks that will enable you to walk directly into the middle of town. At 1 euro an hour, that’s inexpensive parking.

The hotel rooms are spacious and very comfortable with large queen size comfortable beds and a large private balcony with wonderful views.
The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The restaurant is on the top floor and has excellent views. The selection of food is reasonable for breakfast. The juices are freshly squeezed although there could be a wider variety of hot food. Read Less

Rooms were spacious and very clean. Bar prices were very good €2 for a wine €3 for large Estrella beer. Bar food was also very good. Pool was on the small side but we always managed to get a sunbed.
The hotel was near to bars and restaurants and the beach was about 15 min walk away.
We chose this place for its quiet location and had a lovely relaxing holiday. Thank you to the Velamar Hotel and all the staff. We will certainly return. Read Less

Great place Good location, near amenities but quiet. Clean, modern and well equipped apartments. No views but nice pool area with plenty of sun beds. Main thing in its favour is very friendly and helpful staff on reception....really welcoming.

We had a room without balcony, stayed for four days, would recommend getting a balcony if staying longer.
Pool area was small but very clean and well looked after. Free safe in room, towels changed daily, towels for pool supplied.

Our room was cleaned to a very high standard every day, it was spacious, the bed was so comfortable.
The walk down to the front is a fair walk, but there are lots of restaurants bars and cafes to stop at along the way.
We ate at the Tai restaurant near to the hotel, this was lovely, also The Three Marias just a bit further down the road which is really good value, 3 courses and a drink for 12.50 euros also went to Ambrosia and Nectar , an authentic portugese restaurant.Our favouruite place during the day was the Seepy Donkey near the sea front, food very good and so reasonably priced.
We went to Villamoura Marina which is definitely worth a visit also we went Loule which is a lovely place to visit if you get the chance with beautiful buildings, lovely little cafes, a huge food market also a gypsy market on a Saturday.

POSITIVES:
Hotel is pretty smart and well looked after.
The staff are all lovely (John behind the bar is a real asset to this place & deserves a special mention!).
Virus Milho bar next to hotel (turn right after leaving hotel) is wonderful-a friendly little suntrap with €1 pints & wine!
A BEAUTIFUL beach is a 15 min walk away & well worth the trip.
Cheap supermarket to left of hotel (10 min walk).
Breakfast is spot on, plenty of choices.
NEGATIVES:
Pool is a little crowded & sunbeds rarely available (unless you reserve by 9am - I kid you not!!).
Hot water in showers seems to be in short supply in the afternoon.
Dogs opposite can be quite noisy (i like dogs so didn't mind, but u may wish to request a room on the front).
Olhas d'agua is VERY Quiet. Great for relaxation but if you want lively, then look nearer Albufeira. taxis are only €6 to the very lively new town (strip) or €10 to the old town. Staff are more than happy to order taxis for you.
